Next the anti-smoking Guardianistas will be coming for dogs and cats

The British state, nowadays to afraid of sub-state forces that shape societal norms, is increasingly going to greater lengths to adopt the role of family and civil society at once. That or it just wants to reduce perceived burdens on the state coffers without upsetting industries (e.g. alcohol) that regularly fatten those same coffers.

And, of course, bureaucrats have not the foggiest idea how Joe Bloggs goes about relaxing so unsurprisingly we have such a horribly inept (or apt, perhaps?) law that is a numero uno enjoyment-killer. Goodbye Sheesha cafes, weed-filled clubs and the i-don't-smoke-but-i'm-desperate-for-a-fag-with-this-beer cigarette.

Besides, Mr Jenkins puts it much better than I.
